What Size Pool Table Fits Your Space — commercial game-room buying guide from Game Tables
KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • The clearance rule
  • Match the table to the venue
  • Measure before you buy

The right table size is decided by the room, not by preference. A table that's too big for the space kills play — cues hit walls, shots get blocked, and patrons stop using it. Getting clearance right is the single most important spec for a commercial room.

The clearance rule

You need enough open space on every side of the table for a full cue stroke. Work outward from the playing surface: leave room for the cue length plus the player's bridge and backswing on all four sides. Under-size the clearance and the table becomes a liability; over-size it and you've wasted floor that could hold another earner.

Commercial rooms usually standardize on the 7-foot 'bar box' or the 8-foot table. The 7-foot is the workhorse for tight bars and league play; the 8-foot suits roomier venues that want a more premium feel.

Match the table to the venue

Bars, breweries and league rooms lean 7-foot for throughput and tighter clearance. Hotels, clubs, offices and upscale lounges often go 8-foot for presence. Snooker and 9-foot regulation tables need dedicated space and a serious-play audience — they're a statement, not a default.

If you're fitting multiple tables, plan the aisles between them as carefully as the clearance around each one.

Measure before you buy

Send us your room dimensions and we'll tell you honestly what fits and what plays well — including how many tables the space really supports. It's cheaper to plan on paper than to discover the problem after delivery.

Send a floor plan or rough dimensions and we'll spec the size, the count and the layout for your space.
